What a TOEIC Score Breakdown Shows That a Total Hides
685 tells you nothing you can act on. The same 685 can be a listening problem or a reading-speed problem, and the study plan for those two is completely different.
So every item is graded by part, skill and difficulty, and the result you see is the breakdown, not just the headline. Two weak parts, ranked, with the drill already built.

Listening runs at the audio's pace, so you cannot fall behind, because the recording moves you along. Reading gives you 75 minutes and no prompting at all, and 54 of those questions are in Part 7.
Which works out at roughly a minute per Part 7 question, including reading the passage. Most people who "run out of time" actually overspent in Part 5, where the answers are quickest.
Reading budgets are our working split of the official 75 minutes, not an ETS figure. Listening timing is fixed by the recording.

TOEIC is a career gate, not a language hobby. The Test of English for International Communication measures the English of work: meetings, emails, contracts, schedules, phone calls, travel. That's why the score ends up on a CV rather than a certificate on a wall, and why the number matters more than the learning.

TOEIC Practice Test: Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need an account to practice?
You can answer the sample question at the top of this page with no account at all. To practice in the Study Center, sit a timed test or keep any history, you need a free account. It takes about twenty seconds and there's no card required, either an email and password or your Google account. We ask for the account because your plan and your per-part accuracy have to be stored against something.
Is the TOEIC practice test genuinely free?
Yes, and the line is drawn in one place: practice is free, marking is what costs. A free account gets the whole Study Center for both exams, a study plan, per-question feedback, model answers, and as many full-length timed papers as you want. It also gets four mock tests marked in full: a mini and a complete paper in Listening & Reading, and a mini and a complete paper in Speaking & Writing. After those, L&R papers are stored unmarked, you are told so before you start, and every one of them is scored at once if you later subscribe. No credit card to start.
How closely does this match the real test?
The format matches exactly: 200 questions, 7 parts, 100 Listening in about 45 minutes and 100 Reading in 75 minutes, with the same question types and the same part-by-part question counts. The questions themselves are written by our team in the ETS style. They are not retired official papers, which only ETS publishes.
What is a good TOEIC score?
It depends entirely on who is asking. 785 (CEFR B2) is the most commonly required figure, French engineering and business schools frequently set it for graduation, and large Japanese and Korean employers tend to use 800 for hiring and promotion. 550–784 clears many university and graduate-application requirements. 945 and above is CEFR C1, the highest level the test measures. There is no pass mark.
How is the TOEIC score calculated?
You get one raw point per correct answer, with no penalty for wrong answers, so never leave a blank. Each section's raw score out of 100 is converted to a scaled score from 5 to 495 using an equating table specific to your test form, and the two are added for a total from 10 to 990. Because that table is not published, every third-party converter, including ours, is an estimate.
How long does TOEIC preparation take?
For a 100-point gain, most test-takers need somewhere between four and eight weeks of consistent daily work. The variable that matters most is not hours; it is whether the hours go into the parts that are actually losing you points. That is the entire argument for taking a diagnostic first.
TOEIC or TOEFL, which one do I need?
TOEIC measures workplace English and is used by employers for hiring, promotion and placement. TOEFL measures academic English and is used by universities for admission. If the requirement came from a company, an HR department, or a graduation rule at a business or engineering school, it is almost always TOEIC.
